Near the magnificent Kalepa Mountain Forest Reserve on the southeastern coast of the island of Kauai, Lihue was traditionally a sugar town, an important shipping center and the island's main port of entry. Nearby Wailua Falls has a fascinating history of its own, as the early Hawaiian people would plunge 80 feet over a cliff and into a sparkling pool to prove their nobility.
