Conway is often called the Gateway to the Beach. One of the oldest towns in South Carolina, Conway's past has been proudly preserved. Of 39 historic sites, 17 are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town was instrumental in supporting the plantation homes and farms of the area One of the most intriguing aspects of Conway is its river, The Waccamaw. Though the town does not depend on the river to survive anymore, a beautiful riverwalk district has been built for the enjoyment of one and all.
