"The Garden Island of Fiji," Taveuni is the third largest island of the Fijian group. The island is volcanic in origin and rises higher than 4,000 feet.

In the high mountains of Taveuni, there is a beautiful lake of considerable size. A flowering plant, tagimaucia, is found only on the shores of this lake, and any attempt to transplant it to lower altitudes has failed. The plant has bunches of red flowers and is the most beautiful of all Fiji wild flowers.
