The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis consists of - surprise, surprise - St. Kitts and Nevis islands. These sister islands frequently compete for tourists' attention. Don't worry, whichever island catches your eye is a winner.
Discovered and named by Christopher Columbus in 1498 (another shocker), the islands were settled by the British in 1623. Britain and France disputed ownership until 1713, and St. Kitts and Nevis did not achieve independence until 1983. Nevis tried to seceed in 1998, but failed.
